The Rou Estate is an exclusive, privately owned estate perched above the Ionian Sea. The 200 year old village is nestled within a beautiful, sun drenched olive grove with breathtaking coastal views.
The aim of the project was to create and sensitively restore the Rou Village back to its original former glory and create a unique boutique tourism facility in the North East part of Corfu. The Rou Estate provides a unique combination of new and old; private luxury houses with modern comforts, surrounded by traditional Corfiot architecture, all set within an area of outstanding natural beauty providing a very distinctive holiday destination.
The Rou Estate is the perfect place to unwind and to restore your senses. If guests at the Rou Estate wish to stay put there is every incentive to do so – by relaxing within the privacy and beauty of your own house and gardens or exploring the various terraced gardens of the Estate; enjoying a long leisurely afternoon by the 20m communal Rou Pool – one of the most spectacular on the island – an energetic work out in the gym or a relaxing and reinvigorating spa treatment.
The houses have been equipped to the highest standards to provide for your every comfort and need. The Estate Manager is also on call to advise on food deliveries such as regional delicacies from the local taverna, bakery, butcher and supermarket; to hire a chef or recommend tavernas; to book a spa treatment, personal trainer, walking guide or hire a boat or car; and can advise on local places of interest and trips further afield.
Guests staying at the Rou Estate have all the facilities of the Estate at their disposal which include a fully equipped air-conditioned gym (equipped with cross trainer, free weights, exercise bike, and treadmill), yoga platform, sauna, onsite massage and beauty therapist offering a range of treatments designed to help you unwind, rejuvenate, and fully relax during your stay
The ‘Garden Terrace’ with its breathtaking views over the channel is the perfect location for the Rou Estate restaurant, serving a menu of the freshest ingredients. The onsite chef serves local cuisine for candle lit dinners under the olive trees.
The houses within the village accurately reflect the architectural characteristics of a typical house of this period. Similar to the English medieval timber houses of the 14th century, the living accommodation is situated over a storage and stable area called a ‘katoi’. Animals in the past were kept in the lower ‘katoi’ as a source of natural heat in the winter, now they make beautiful family rooms/living rooms for those fortunate enough to own or rent one.
In the Rou Estate we offer to our guests an opportunity of a unique holiday experience within a beautifully restored, original Greek village. Many aspects of original village life were resurrected in order to enhance the ambiance and overall experience. The houses were restored in harmony with the natural surroundings and any additional structures were built in the traditional method to enhance character.
Each of the 16 renovated individual houses covers approximately 150-200 sq.m. split over two floors, with most having outside private terraces, balconies and heated plunge pools. Some kitchens contain original bread ovens but are otherwise sparklingly modern; there is a sitting room and 2-5 bedrooms, most with en suite bathroom. The houses have been designed to preserve the unique atmosphere of a settled old house, with luxurious interiors to which modern technology has contributed a great deal.
Open fires provide a focal point, and the decoration and furnishing is very stylish. There are private terraces with direct views to the sea.
The village square creates the focus of the village and it is a public space from which each individual house has access. Away from the public square each house has a private terrace and a pool area with a direct view to the sea built into the slope and maintaining privacy where possible.
The approximately seven acre property of the Rou Estate lies within the heart of the popular North East area of Corfu just above Agios San Stefanos, one of Corfu’s premier tourist destinations.
The intention was to acquire, develop and restore the Rou Village to its former glory. Enhancing the existing buildings back to their former beauty and sympathetically restoring the architectural quality of a traditional Corfiot village with all its charm and antiquity.
