Rou was literally built from a quarried stone that provided the livelihood of the residents and sits right above a cliff created by quarrying. Many of the influences on Dominic’s designs for the pool complex and spa were as a result of the spectacular surroundings.
The pool complex has been designed to fit into a magnificent space that was previously a quarry, with the hewn rock face some ten meters high and as a result, there is the most dramatic backdrop for this amazingly designed area of rock strata.
The main swimming pool is a juxtaposition of a modern achingly pool, in the form of a huge infinity pool, and a respectful doff-of-the-cap to the countryside it sits in, with its rugged backdrop of exposed stone, untouched from the excavation of the area.
The ‘Garden Terrace’ found near to the retreat complex, is surrounded on all sides by glass, enabling enjoyment of all-round views while partaking in activities. This is also a perfect location for special interest holiday groups, for discussions, lessons and lectures, and for group meals, being furnished with its own kitchen.
A separate gym is equipped with cross trainers, free weights, and exercise bikes.
